ACCESS TO PUBLIC LANDS
Increasingly, Montanans are being locked out of the rugged splendor that makes Montana our home. It's time to tear down those gates! Whether it is for recreation, responsible forest management, or 21st century mineral extraction, Montanans need access to enjoy the treasures of our Big Sky State that are locked behind those gates!
- I believe opportunities can be created at the state level to turn our lands from a liability to a viable asset that produces revenue for our local towns and counties. In order to successfully manage public lands, three criteria need to be met:
- Increase the number of Montanans who are able to make a living and provide for their families through the management of our public lands.
- Increase access to Montana's public lands for Montanans to hunt, fish, and recreate.
- Turn our lands from a liability to a viable asset that produces revenue for our local towns and counties to provide infrastructure and public schools.
As a public servant in the State Legislature, I have developed a strong voting record promoting our rights to hunt, fish, and trap. Efforts I’ve made include championing legislation to successfully protect our state from aquatic invasive species and supporting legislation to improve wildlife habitat, public access, and the management of state forests. The federal government needs to look to Montanans to understand our unique needs and on how to manage our lands.
